B.Chaet,1924-2012

B.Chaet dies after battling with dementia for several years

Here are some words I wrote about his work in 1991 for an essay that accompanied a group show of landscape painters at AIB."For Chaet no sun will create  the same patterns of color from morning to morning.Every day greets him with so many variables:humidity, cloud cover, wind conditions, wave patterns and time of year.Yet undaunted he succeeds in creating the fleeting uniqueness of each dawn."

I imagine the sun that he greeted each morning is now wondering where his friend Bernie has gone.

  1. I recently came across this post card from Bernie dated July 22 2007 that shows that he was having a dialogue with nature that went both ways:

"Marty-Thanks for the magazine and your notes! The article by Rosanna is wonderful!!
I will show at NY Nov 3rd- David Findlay- oils and watercolors at Babcock at the same time.

We will be at P.town at Boghosian soon to see the Dickinson.
I am painting hard.My rocks need me!

  2. I got to read the blog and the comment at his memorial at Yale on Jan 20th.I wished to make the point that there was a deep relationship between Bernie and Nature. His friendship with the sun, rocks, sea and clouds was deeply personal.
